Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with SkiDUCK!
What will a SkiDUCK volunteer do?
You’ll be helping kids with rentals in the morning, chaperoning them to and from ski school and lunch, and free riding with them in the afternoon. SkiDUCK usually provides FREE Volunteer lift tickets to those who don’t have a season pass at the resort, and you’ll have an hour+ of free time to do what you want while kids are in lessons.
Do I have to know how to ski or snowboard?
Yes, for on-slope events we prefer at least a solid intermediate skill level for all volunteers (i.e. comfortable on all blue runs). However, our participating resorts generously provide SkiDUCK kids with lessons, so you don’t have to be an instructor or a pro skier/rider to volunteer. (If you’re interested in volunteering off the slopes, we are seeking skills in: marketing/fundraising, accounting, IT, photography/video production, social media, writing and program coordination.)
OK, sounds great! How do I get started?
- First, click here for a Background Checkwhich is required of ALL volunteers working directly with kids. There’s an $8 fee and it only takes a minute online. (Partnering youth groups’ staff and registered volunteers who have already completed background checks with their organization do not need to complete this one.)
- Once you’ve submitted your Background Check, email us atVolunteer@SkiDUCK.org
- Within a few days we’ll send you an invitation to our Volunteer Registration and Scheduling tool called TeamSnap(www.TeamSnap.com)where you can sign up for on-slope events. (Please add your cell # to your profile.)
- Then, from ourParticipant Forms pageprint and bring a signed copy of the REQUIRED Adult Volunteer Liability Waiver to your first event of the season. (Only 1 form needed per season.)
- Also, print and bring the resort’sEvent Day Itinerarywith you, as it has ALL instructions re: meeting places and times as well as Lead Volunteer contact info.
- Please arrive 30 minutes before the event start time, so we can provide instructions on “herding cats” on the slopes!
We’re excited to have you join our team! For any other questions, please contact: Volunteer@SkiDUCK.org

History
In 2009 Clint Lunde saw there was a gap in the non-profit world for helping financially underprivileged kids get to the mountains. So, on August 19, 2009 the SkiDUCK idea was born. SkiDUCK’s mission is to help provide skiing and snowboarding for children and teens who otherwise may never have the opportunity to get up to the slopes. In October 2009 the IRS approved SkiDUCK’s non-profit status and then on February 7, 2010 SkiDUCK’s first season was underway. In their first season SkiDUCK helped around underprivileged 130 kids have their first day of skiing or snowboarding for free. Now, seven seasons later, SkiDUCK has helped provide over 2,000 free days of skiing.
SkiDUCK works with youth service organizations to give kids from financially underprivileged families the chance to enjoy the beauty of the mountains and joy of riding on snow. Squaw Valley and other participating Tahoe resorts all generously donate free lift tickets, free rentals, and free lessons.
About Us
Each season SkiDUCK provides over 1,000 youth from ages 7-18 with nearly 2,000 FREE days of skiing and snowboarding; including free lift tickets, rentals and lessons! Our home-base is Squaw Valley & Alpine Meadows in beautiful North Lake Tahoe, CA. And we’re so fortunate to also have the support of several other Lake Tahoe area resorts as well as partnerships with resorts in several other states! (Check out our Ski Resort Partners page!)
We’re committed to partnering with local organizations with similar goals of serving underprivileged youth. If your community or organization is interested in partnering with SkiDUCK to establish a program to introduce disadvantaged youth to the slopes, give us a QUACK!
